Retaining Expectations!! BRUTAL!
Okay, so today was my 1st lecture for my last class. An optics course... and then the prof walks in... What!! It's a prof I worked with on a hardcore experiment in 3rd year! This guy is sick... and has pure connections in the photonics world! Like he'd be an amazing reference for a career or even grad school. Like an inside link!
I'm like score!! I was soo meaning to drop by his office sometime - no need now that he's my prof. But then the BRUTAL part kicked in! This course is a hardcore optics class - like frigin grad level!! Half the students are grad! Damn, not another course like Quantum Mech I.
I spoke to him afterward & he'll like you're way ahead of the other students... I'm thinking - shoot! No I'm not! I have some background, but this whole grad level is hardcore!! Now if I want his help career or grad schoolwise, I'm gonna have to ace this grad course!!
Well, I guess it's not that bad considering this is where I want to be. The material & knowledge I want to fine tune! I mean, I think photonics is the shit! But I just afraid of making the grade! And the amount of hardcore work I will need to put forth.
But something he said was also interesting... he said my level of maturity was way ahead of the pack (after PEY that is). And guy, it is so true. Sometimes, it doesn't seem like it because I write my blog in pure slang - but truth be told, I can notice the maturity difference coming back into rez and school.
lol. Coming back, I had the reputation as the "life of the party" on the floor. (who comes up with this stuff?) But now, I'm so mellow. I'm like on a mission... like shit, I have things to do, priorities to finish.
But yo, I got to soo thank that prof for his help in 3rd year. He is the one who sparked my knowledge in lasers & photonics. It is thanks to him I'm starting a thesis that other students might not have been able to do (non-linear optics). Although, I have only touched the surface & am far from a master of these subjects - he gave me the extra boost. Now I've got to build a strong fortress of knowledge! (lol - fortress of knowledge, where do I come up with this stuff??).
Retaining Expectations is Brutal!
